On October 20, 2012 people from all around the CSRA gather to support Breast Cancer Awareness in the city of Augusta. From the “Ribbon of Balloons” to the “Fountain of Pink”, the event was a resounding success, and I can’t wait until next year………..Will I see you there??

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is a month when caring people conduct events across the nation to raise awareness of Domestic Violence. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), approximately 1.3 million women are victims of domestic violence each year. When you consider that most of the violence is not reported, the statistics for violent crimes within the home are staggering.
Although there exist countless private and government organizations who report statistical data with the objective ot raising awareness, there are few groups who provide actual support to survivors and their families. Nowhere is the need to provide support is greater than right in our own backyard!! In 2011, there were almost 3,000 reported domestic violence cases in Richmond County.  At the beginning of 2012, Georgia was ranked among the top ten states for reported domestic violence.
Fortunately, there are organizations like Safe Homes of Augusta that reach out to domestic violence survivors to provide much needed assistance. They provide confidential services for survivors, so the cycle of violence can be broken.
I have family members who are survivors of domestic violence and are blessed to still be around to tell their stories. That’s why I have made a commitment to help by any means at my disposal. We all need to do what’s necessary to educate our community, as well as, lend a helping hand with donations.
Don’t pretend you can’t help!!

Walk to End Alzheimer’s – November 3, 2012

I’m walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the 2012 Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.

I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer’s Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer’s. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.

Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer’s disease starts here.

Miracle Mile – Walk For Breast Cancer October 20, 2012

What can one person do? Join the thousands of others who give to help. According to the University Health Care Foundation, “in the first half of 2012, over 800 uninsured women were provided free mammograms.” Your participation will assist in providing breast cancer care to women and men in the Central Savannah River Area.

With your help, women and men in our community will never be turned away from having mammograms because of an inability to pay, University Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be able to stay on the road and out in our community screening women and men where they live, and our area’s only accredited Breast Health Center can continue providing world class care to those who need it.

If you have any questions about University Hospital’s Breast Health Center or how we leverage your support to provide breast cancer care to our community, please call the Foundation office at             (706) 667-0030      , or visit our website at www.universityhealth.org/charitablegiving.
